KUALA KRAI: Pas spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat returned to his old self on Sunday night, attacking Umno as an enemy the party could not compromise with.
“Umno is a deviant group, similar to Ayah Pin. Umno and communists are the same. Umno is a socialist party because they reject Islam. Umno is a Malay party but not an Islamic party,” the Kelantan menteri besar said at a ceramah in Kampung Laloh here.
“How could we agree to work with Umno? They are now asking us to forget the past and join them. These people have no shame,” he said in front of Pakatan Rakyat colleagues Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP deputy chairman Tan Seng Giaw.
Nik Aziz was talking to a 5,000-strong crowd in the Pas campaign for the Manik Urai by-election on July 14.
Repeatedly branding Umno as unfit to rule the country, Nik Aziz said Muslims should reject it if they feared God.
The spiritual leader has ratcheted up his rhetoric against talks with Umno as some senior Pas leaders are inclined towards cooperation with the Barisan Nasional.
The cracks in Pas between supporters of Niz Aziz and party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang could give rise to a third, independent candidate in Manik Urai, wrote NST.com.my
